What are the types of OBD2 to J1939 cables?
There are several types of OBD2 to J1939 cables:
Classified by joint form
Right angle cable: One end is a 9-pin J1939 male connector with a right angle, and the other end is a 16 pin OBD2 female connector. This design allows the cable to better adapt to the spatial position during installation, avoiding interference with other components. It is commonly used in compact vehicle interiors, making it convenient to connect OBD2 interfaces and devices with J1939 interfaces.
Ordinary straight head cable: The two ends of the cable are connected in a conventional straight line connection form, that is, the 9-pin J1939 male head and the 16 pin OBD2 female head are directly connected without special bending or angle design, suitable for scenarios that do not require high space and require direct and simple connection.
Y-shaped splitter cable: It has one J1939 interface and two or more OBD2 interfaces, or one OBD2 interface and two or more J1939 interfaces, which can achieve signal splitting transmission and connect multiple devices at the same time. For example, one OBD2 interface is connected to a diagnostic device, while the other interface is connected to a data logger, etc.
Classified by J1939 connector type
Green Type2 J1939 to OBD2 cable: The J1939 end uses a green Type2 standard 9-pin connector, which matches specific green Type2 interface devices that comply with the J1939 protocol. It can be used to connect vehicles or devices with this interface to the OBD2 system.
Black Type1 J1939 to OBD2 cable: The J1939 end is a black Type1 connector, suitable for connecting with J1939 devices or vehicles that use the Type1 standard. It is more common in some early or specific brands of vehicles and industrial equipment.
Classified by functional purpose
Diagnostic special cable: mainly used for automotive fault diagnosis, connecting the OBD2 interface of the car with the J1939 interface of the diagnostic equipment, so that the diagnostic equipment can read the vehicle's fault codes, real-time data and other information, helping maintenance personnel quickly locate and solve vehicle problems.
Data transmission cable: focuses on achieving data communication between the OBD2 system and the J1939 system, used to transmit vehicle operation data, sensor data, etc. from the OBD2 interface to data acquisition devices, monitoring systems, etc. with J1939 interface for data analysis and processing.
Classified by core material and specifications
Different core materials of cables: Common ones include pure copper cables, which have good conductivity and anti-interference properties, ensuring the stability and accuracy of signal transmission; There are also cables made of materials such as copper-clad aluminum.
Cables with different wire diameter specifications: The larger the wire diameter, the stronger the cable's current carrying capacity and anti-interference ability, making it suitable for different current and signal transmission requirements.
